​Terence Higgins Trust asks chief executive to stand down

The Terrence Higgins Trust has sacked its chief executive.

Dr Rosemary Gillespie, who had only been in her post for 15 months, has been fired with immediate effect by its trustees who said a change of leadership was required.

THT is the largest provider of HIV and sexual health services in the UK’s third sector.

Chairman of its board Robert Glick said Gillespie had been the driving force behind a new strategy for THT and her tenure had been marked by considerable change.

But a change of leadership was needed “for the next stage of the organisation's development” said Glick.

“As such, the board has asked Dr Rosemary Gillespie to step down from her position as chief executive, with immediate effect”, he said.

Turnover of employees has reportedly remained high under Gillespie.

It has also been claimed she clashed with senior colleagues.

Gillespie said on Twitter: “The board gave me a mandate for change, but sadly they didn't have the stomach for it

She later added in a stament: “I was surprised and disappointed and I do not think I have been treated well,” she said.

“I have done nothing wrong. A number of people have left since I joined, as you would expect during a significant period of change.

“Perhaps people should look more closely at the board’s leadership and the detrimental impact their leadership is having on people who use THT’s services.”

The process for replacing Gillespie has not yet been named but the charity said interim arrangements would be announced soon.
