Aberdeen-based charity Gathimba Edwards Foundation (GEF) has officially rebranded.

Founded in 2014, GEF has spent the last decade working to provide life-changing support through various initiatives from education to shelter and therapies to providing equipment for disabled children.

Gideon Gathimba from Kenya and Myles Edwards first met in Aberdeen, Scotland whilst racing in a one mile running event, organised by Myles’ father Mel, to celebrate the opening of Aberdeen Sports Village.

It has rebranded with a fresh identity, a new website, and a renewed commitment to supporting children and families in both North-east Scotland and Kenya.

Until recently, the majority of the charity’s work has taken place in Kenya. However, 2024 saw the number of children they support in North-east Scotland double in number. The rebrand is a milestone in the charity’s journey, ensuring equal focus is given to its work in both Kenya and North-east Scotland.

“Our relaunch as GEF represents more than just a new look, it’s about reaffirming our commitment to the communities we serve, both in north-east Scotland and further afield in Kenya,” said Myles Edwards – GEF co-founder and director.

“The demand for our services in this region has never been higher, making it essential for our brand and vision to align with the work we're doing here.

“Also, the charity has always been about more than two people’s surnames, it is about hundreds of people who continually go the extra mile for children we support, and this is why going forward, we are proud to move towards our brand and logo being GEF. We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of our community and look forward to this next phase of our journey”.

GEF’s revisioned mission and objectives in both countries will be focused upon the three pillars of education, shelter and wellbeing to build a brighter future and improve the quality of life for children and their families.

To celebrate, GEF recently hosted a rebrand launch event at AAB headquarters in Aberdeen. Attendees heard firsthand about the charity’s impact over the years and its vision for the future.

The revamped website, which went live on 3 March, serves as a platform to share stories of those supported by GEF, provide updates on ongoing projects, and make it easier for the community to get involved.
