​Young Scot and Carnegie UK Trust will seek to gain an insight into what young people think about various financial challenges

Organisations Young Scot and Carnegie UK Trust are creating a new project to discuss finance with young people experiencing greater levels of poverty and inequality.

The project, Repay Right, will aim to identify the most important financial products in the lives of young people facing the greatest barriers in society.

Participants will be able to share their experiences of using a range of financial products, such as loans, credit and store cards.

They will also get the chance to meet and work with representatives from various financial institutions to brainstorm how financial products can best be suited to helping young people.

Louise Macdonald, chief executive of Young Scot said: “Financial support for young people is hugely important. Through this project we can learn from young people and take that forward by collaborating with our partners to reach the best outcome for young people.”

Douglas White, head of advocacy at Carnegie UK Trust said, “Access to affordable credit can be a real challenge for many people in Scotland, including young people. This project will give young people the opportunity to talk about how they approach this challenge, the difficulties they experience and the choices that they have available to them.

“It will also provide a unique opportunity for young people to identify how better, more affordable credit options can be developed to meet their needs in the future.”

Young Scot is recruiting young people aged 16 to 24 for the Repay Right project, which will run from August to December this year.
