Scottish charity SSF has announced comedian Chris Forbes as its new ambassador to raise awareness for its sports programmes aimed at disadvantaged kids

Scottish Sports Futures (SSF) has recently named actor and comedian Chris Forbes as its newest celebrity ambassador.

SSF is a Glasgow based charity delivering sports programmes to disadvantaged young people across Scotland, with the aim of helping them to make positive lifestyle choices.

The actor is best known for his role in BBC Scotland’s mockumentary series Scot Squad, and will take up the role as charity ambassador once his Edinburgh Fringe stand-up show ends.

The job of celebrity ambassador is to raise awareness of the community work SSF does, and Chris will also contribute to the charity’s work by fundraising, blogging and making speaking appearances.

Chris headlined SSF’s June comedy fundraiser, as well as having previous voluntary and sporting experience, having worked at a sports camp in Washington DC coaching at-risk young people.

Chris, born in the Bridge of Weir, said: “I am delighted to be an ambassador for SSF. It does incredibly important work and I am honoured to be involved with such an inspiring organisation. I am passionate about sport and know first-hand how it can benefit a young person's lifestyle and life choices as I have worked with kids with disadvantaged backgrounds before.”

Angela Gregory, SSF’s finance manager, said: “We are thrilled that Chris has agreed to be an ambassador for SSF and to raise awareness of and support the work we do with thousands of young people every year.

“The enthusiasm and profile that Chris brings to the role as a SSF ambassador will be of great benefit to SSF and the young people we support.”

Chris will be headlining SSF’s comedy fundraiser at the Hard Rock Café in Glasgow in November, with funds going towards helping Scottish young people through SSF’s sports programmes.
