Understanding The Teenage Brain: development learning and behaviour
Children in Scotland
This event is in the past
Key Learning:
- Brain development in different stages of adolescence.
- The impact of these changes on behaviour and learning.
- Learn how to support teenagers to grow into well-functioning adults.
- This session is aimed at anyone living with or working with teenagers.
Background
This in-person, half-day training will focus on the adolescent brain and how it develops. We will learn how the teenage brain is different from the brains of children and adults. We will discuss what is happening in the brain – and what is not happening – which is arguably more important.
We will explore the implications of living with a brain that is reorganising itself and what challenges that presents for those living or working with teenagers. We will think about how the changes in the brain impact behaviour, learning and decision making and we will discuss how we can support teenagers as they go through this challenging time.
We will also think about how our support can ensure that our teenagers come through this period of their lives more confident, more grounded and become healthy and happy individuals.
Note: A shortened, online version of this training session has been run previously under the title: ‘The Teenage Brain: implications for behaviour and learning’. This in-person, half-day session will explore how to support adolescents in-depth, as well as provide extended opportunities for discussion.
